LRT-1 and 2 extend operating hours by an hour

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) on Thursday night said it is extending the operating hours of LRT Lines 1 and 2 by at least one hour. In a Twitter message, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said the LRTA is extending operations by one hour to accommodate commuters affected by heavy rains. "Last train from Baclaran and Santolan shall be 10:30 p.m. Last train from Roosevelt and Recto shall be 11:00 p.m.," it said. "Pumayag ang LRT pagamitin hanggang 11 p.m. (LRT management allowed the use of their trains up to 11 p.m.)," MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino added in an interview on dzBB radio. In the meantime, Tolentino said the MMDA had mobilized traffic enforcers to flood-prone areas like España in Manila and Maysilo in Mandaluyong City. He added the composite teams will be working overnight if needed. "Walang uwian po yan (They will not be allowed to go home early)," he said. Meanwhile, Tolentino said floods in flood-prone areas are subsiding quickly except for the eastern side of Metro Manila, including Cainta. He also noted reports of alarms being sounded in Marikina City due to the reported overflow of the Marikina River. On the other hand, he appealed to motorists and commuters to be patient with the traffic. "Sa naipit sa trapiko kaunting pasensya tayo at kaunting disiplina (To those stuck in traffic we appeal for patience and a little discipline)," he said. — KBK, GMA News
