Classes suspended in Marikina on Friday

There will be no classes in all levels in Marikina City on Friday in the wake of heavy rains that pelted Metro Manila on Thursday. “Inaanunsyo natin no classes bukas both private and public all levels dahil sa masamang panahon (I am announcing there will be no classes Friday in both private and public schools at all levels because of the inclement weather)," Marikina Mayor Del de Guzman said on dzBB radio. De Guzman said some families in flood-prone areas were also evacuated to safer ground. He said city rescue teams are on standby to evacuate families near the Marikina River if needed. Heavy rains fell on parts of Metro Manila Thursday, due to the southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical storm “Falcon" (Meari). Meanwhile, Malabon City said it will make an announcement on Friday classes between 3 to 4 a.m. Friday. “May lugar na medyo mataas ang tubig (There are areas where the water is very high)," said PIO chief Bong Padua. — KBK, GMA News
