DepEd suspends classes in Cavite City on Friday

The Department of Education in the Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Rizal-Quezon region declared Thursday night the suspension of classes in Cavite City for Friday. DepEd Calabarzon head Lorna Dino cited floods in several areas in Cavite City as the reason for the decision, radio dzBB reported. The DepEd has jurisdiction over preschool, elementary and high school levels. Earlier, the DepEd in Metro Manila ordered the suspension of classes from the preschool to high school levels on Friday in anticipation of heavy rains. The Commission on Higher Education, meanwhile, is leaving to college and university administrators the decision whether to suspend classes on Friday. CHED Chairman Julito Vitriolo noted only Storm Signal No. 3 can prompt the automatic suspension of classes at the collegiate level. He added they have not received an advisory from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to suspend classes. — KBK, GMA News
