US Embassy remains open on Friday despite non-working day in Manila

Even though June 24 is a special non-working day in Manila, the United States Embassy there will remain open on that day. On its Facebook page, the US Embassy said it will remain open for business on Friday, a special non-working day in the City of Manila in observance of its 440th Foundation Day. "U.S. Embassy Manila will be open for business tomorrow, Friday June 24, 2011," the Embassy said. Earlier, the Labor Department reminded employers in Manila to observe the proper pay rules for the benefit of the workers in the city’s private sector. Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz noted President Benigno Aquino III declared the special non-working day within the City by virtue of Proclamation No. 175 issued on May 20. “It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Manila be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies," the DOLE quoted a part of the proclamation as saying. - VVP, GMA News
