Bomb explosion blasts Bulacan provincial jail

A bomb explosion rocked the provincial jail in Bulacan, the police spokesman said Saturday. The incident took place Saturday afternoon at Bulacan provincial jail in Malolos City, Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr. said. The official said Alfredo Mendiola, a prime witness in the murder of car dealer Venson Evangelista, may have been the target of the bomb blast. Cruz said two unidentified suspects climbed the detention facility’s wall and dropped two hand grenades and two Molotive bombs near the cell of Mendiola. “No one was hurt and no damage was incurred in the incident," Cruz said in a text message to reporters. Recovered at the scene of the incident were one unexploded hand grenade, broken parts of two Molotov bombs, and a bamboo ladder, Cruz added. Mendiola has tagged the Dominguez brothers, Roger and Raymond, in the murder and kidnapping of Evangelista. The brothers, who are currently under the police custody, have been allegedly involved in murder and carjacking incidents in Calumpit, Bulacan, known for selling car parts. — JE, GMA News
