NDRRMC: 1 dead due to storm Falcon, damage at P54M


At least one person was reported dead in the wake of tropical storm "Falcon" (Meari), which dumped heavy rain on Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon before leaving Philippine territory Saturday. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) identified the fatality as Ranny Bernardo of Sto. Niño, Hagonoy (Bulacan), who drowned. In its 6 a.m. Sunday update, the NDRRMC also said one was injured and at least 16 remain missing, including 13 from Bicol, two from Central Luzon and one from Cordillera. Among those reported missing, the recent ones were:

  • Glen Villarmino, 22, Marilao, Bulacan
  • Vicente Yossayos, 57, Poblacion Sadanga, Mt. Province
According to the NDRRMC, Falcon affected 155,591 families or 723,371 people in 540 villages in 56 towns and 18 cities in four regions. Of these, 25,679 families or 118,921 people were evacuated to 188 evacuation centers. Some 72 houses were destroyed and 1,138 were damaged in Central and Southern Luzon, Bicol, Western Visayas and Metro Manila. Damage to property was estimated at P54,086,592.90. This included P23,626,592.90 in agriculture and P30.86 million in infrastructure. In its update, the NDRRMC also indicated some impassable roads in northern Luzon. These are:
  • Kabayan-Buguias-Abatan Road, Alapang Section is closed to traffic due to rockslide. DPWH crew conducted manual clearing operation.
  • Baguio-Bontoc Road (Topdac Section) – one lane open due to rockslides. DPWH payloader was mobilized to clear the slide.
  • Abra-Kalinga Road (Km 470) – one lane open due to boulders eroded from mountain slopes. Clearing operation is ongoing.
  • Mt. Province-Ilocos Sur Road via Tue (Km 389+100) Calacbban Section is closed to traffic due to slides. DPWH maintenance crew were on site doing punch-through operation.
