Weather: Southwest monsoon may trigger floods, landslides in North Luzon

While the weather may continue to improve, northern Luzon still faces possible flash floods and landslides due to the southwest monsoon, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Sunday afternoon. In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA also maintained its advice to fishermen using small seacraft in northern Luzon not to venture out to sea yet. "Northern Luzon will experience Monsoon rains becoming widespread rains over the Western section which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. Central Luzon will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms," it said. The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, it added. PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over northern Luzon with moderate to rough seas. Light to moderate winds coming from the southeast to southwest will prevail over the rest of Luzon and Visayas and coming from the east to northeast over Mindanao, it added. It also said the coastal waters along these areas will be slight to moderate. Meanwhile, strong to gale force winds are expected to affect the seaboards of northern Luzon. "Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves," PAGASA said. — KBK, GMA News
