Hacking threats not over, group attacks Spanish sites

The Lulz Security hacker group may have announced the end of its operations last weekend, but the threat from hacking appears far from over. On Monday (Manila time), the Anonymous hacktivist group was linked to attacks on Spain's Telefonica and Movistar sites, although they were not entirely successful. "The Anonymous hacking group has been active in Spain again and on Sunday managed to take down the www.movistar.es site. They also launched an attack on the www.telefonica.com domain although that appears to have been unsuccessful," AnonOps said in a blog post. It said Movistar.es was taken down for about half an hour Sunday afternoon, supposedly the time it took for the company to put up a mirror site. As of 12:15 p.m. Monday in Manila, visitors to the Movistar site would occasionally get timeout error messages. AnonOps said Anonymous announced its intentions last weekto protest the "massive sackings" and "censure" at Telefónica, which reportedly plans to lay off 6,500 workers in Spain. It added the latest attack comes two weeks after the police arrested three people accused of being the administrators of chat rooms where the denial of service attacks were coordinated against the Ministry for Culture, SGAE copyright organisation and the Junta Electoral. On Sunday (Manila time), LulzSec announced its intention to disband after 50 days of hacking government and corporate sites. But LulzSec called for continued support for AntiSec, its joint anti-security effort with Anonymous, to leak classified government documents. — RSJ, GMA News
