Weather: PAGASA expects 16 more cyclones for 2011


After tropical storm "Falcon" (international code name Meari) left the Philippine territory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said about 16 more storms may hit the country this year. "Naka-anim na tayo, mga 15 to 16 pang bagyo," PAGASA forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said in an interview on dzBB radio. Aurelio said an average of 21 to 22 cyclones hit the country every year. However, for now, Aurelio said there was no immediate sign of another cyclone approaching the Philippines. As of Monday morning, "Falcon" left behind at least three dead and P152.711 million in damage to property. Six cyclones For 2011, PAGASA said six cyclones have already entered Philippine territory:

  • Amang;
  • Bebeng;
  • Chedeng;
  • Dodong;
  • Egay, and
  • Falcon. For upcoming cyclones for the rest of the year, PAGASA said these will be named:
  • Goring
  • Hanna
  • Ineng
  • Juaning
  • Kabayan
  • Lando
  • Mina
  • Nonoy
  • Onyok
  • Pedring
  • Quiel
  • Ramon
  • Sendong
  • Tisoy
  • Ursula
  • Viring If there will be more than 22 cyclones this year, PAGASA reserved names for three more: Weng, Yoyoy, and Zigzag. - VVP, GMA News
