DOF files graft charges against LandBank official

Complaints reaching the central offices of the Land Bank of the Philippines (LandBank) have prompted the filing of corruption charges against a LandBank official in Kidapawan City, North Cotabato. The Department of Finance (DOF) filed criminal and administrative charges against Gil Benavidez Noble, a division chief of the LandBank in Kidapawan City, North Cotabato. DOF Revenue Integrity Protection service (RIPS) lawyers accused Noble of amassing wealth disproportionate to his income during his 23 years of service at LandBank. The RIPS said they did a lifestyle check on Noble and learned that he complied with his annual obligation of filing his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth or SALN only in 1990 and 2000. In the compliant filed before the Office of the Ombudsman, it was alleged that Noble also failed to disclose his acquisition of properties of significant value such as a farm lot in 1989, a residential-commercial building, rice land, a 500 square-meter lot, and an industrial machine. Noble is now facing charges of violating the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act (RA 6713), the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees (RA 1379) while a law on forfeiture of public officials’ illegally-acquired properties will be applied against him if found guilty as charged. — ELR/VS, GMA News
