SONA security measures at Batasan ironed out

Authorities have started ironing out security measures at the Batasan Complex in Quezon City for President Benigno Aquino III's second State of the Nation Address before a joint session of Congress on July 25. The security measures ranged from arrangements for media and VIP guests, to the imposition of a no-fly zone at the Batasan area, radio dzBB reported Tuesday. Representatives of media entities and officials of the Senate and House of Representatives took part in a meeting Monday, the report said. Also represented at the meeting were Radio-Television Malacañang and the Presidential Security Group. The initial arrangements included color-coded IDs for media representatives covering the event, and the strict implementation of a "No ID, No Entry" policy. The PSG and House of Representatives security will strictly implement a no-firearms rule on the day of the SONA at the Batasan Complex. From 1 to 6 p.m. of July 25, authorities will impose a no-fly zone at a one-kilometer radius around the Batasan Complex. Also on July 25, VIPs will enter the Batasan Complex via the north and south entrances, as the main lobby will be closed until after Aquino delivers his SONA. — RSJ, GMA News
