Police: Armed men strafe Isabela town mayor's house

Unidentified armed men strafed the house of a town mayor in Isabela province before dawn on Tuesday, the local police chief said. Mallig town police head Chief Inspector Jaime Narne said witnesses heard a motorcycle take off shortly after the attack on the house of Mayor Pedro Flores. "Around 2:00 a.m. kaninang umaga nakarinig si Mayor Pedro Flores ng automatic burst of fire. After the firing of automatic burst, lumabas siya at natapakan ang basag na jalousy sa second floor," Narne said in an interview on dzBB radio. He said they are still looking for leads on who the perpetrators are and what the motive was. Citing initial reports, Narne said police investigators recovered shells of cal-5.56 bullets commonly used in Armalite firearms. Narne also said an initial interview with the mayor indicated that he had not received any death threat. "Tinanong namin si Mayor kanina, wala namang nare-receive na threat sa cell phone," Narne said. However, Narne also cited witnesses who said they heard a motorcycle leaving after the shooting. "Walang nakakita pero may nakarinig sa motor just after the firing ay mabilis (tumakbo) ang single motor," he said. - VVP, GMA News
