Hikers trace Jose Rizal's daily route in Hong Kong

Some 40 hikers joined a historic walking tour, retracing Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal's daily route during his stay in Hong Kong for six months from 1891 to 1892. The participants joined the hike on June 19, Rizal's 150th birth anniversary, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Tuesday. The DFA said the hiking activity began at the Hong Kong Park Olympic Square and proceeded to Victoria Peak and then back to Central. Wreath-laying ceremonies were held at Rizal's residence in Rednaxela Terrace and his clinic on D’Aguilar Street. The public viewed the film "Jose Rizal" by acclaimed Filipino director Marilou Diaz Abaya at the Consulate General’s Conference Room. Renowned historian Fr. Javier de Pedro also spoke about the life of Josephine Bracken and her relationship with Dr. Rizal. The event was jointly organized by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association and Lakbay Dangal. - VVP, GMA News
