Bakers: Prices of Pinoy Tasty steady, branded loaf bread to rise

Bakers on Tuesday assured consumers that the price of Pinoy Tasty bread, will stay at the subsidized level of P39 per loaf despite the rising cost of local flour. "This is part of their social effort to make bread products within the reach of the Filipino masses," the Philippine Baking Industry Group Inc. (PhilBaking), the Filipino Chinese Bakeries Association Inc., and the Federation of Bakers Association Inc. said. But they were unable to give the same assurance for branded loaf bread, the price of which they have to adjust after local millers raised by P40 to P50 the price of a 25-kilogram bag of flour. Members of PhilBaking, like Gardenia and Uncle George, have raised their loaf bread prices, while Marby and Creative Bakers will follow in the coming days. The bakers said the price increase does not yet take into account the cost of other ingredients like milk, cooking oil, fuel, tollway fees and the additional P20 cost of living allowance for bakery workers. — ELR/VS, GMA News
