Hubert Webb tops Twitter trends, netizens debate Vizconde case

The National Bureau of Investigation's (NBI) presentation of new witnesses in the Vizconde massacre case on Tuesday drew mixed reactions from Filipino social media users, making the two prominent figures in the case —Lauro Vizconde and Hubert Webb— top trending topics on Twitter on Tuesday night. As of Wednesday afternoon, Hubert Webb became the top trending topic on Twitter in the Philippines immediately following his appearance in a televised press conference. NBI reveals new witnesses On Tuesday morning, the NBI presented to the media five new witnesses in the case, who indicated that acquitted murder suspect Hubert Webb was in the country in June 1991, contrary to his alibi in court. NBI's Death Investigation Division head Romulo Asis said they were also able to uncover data from magnetic reel tapes stored in the Bureau of Immigration, which showed that Webb never left the country during that time. Webb holds presscon Webb, on the other hand, denied this in a press conference on Wednesday, as his father, former Senator Freddie Webb, presented his passport with a stamp from immigration, indicating that he had indeed left the country in June 1991. Online discussion Following this intense word war and presentation of evidence before the media, Pinoy Twitter users began to chime in and offer their two cents' worth regarding the revival of this two-decade-old issue. Twitter user @tridlovesU was hopeful for Vizconde: "Sana makuha na ni Lauro Vizconde ang hustisyang narrapat!" User @attymonique, on the other hand, felt Webb had already paid his dues: "Enough about Hubert Webb already. The guy's served time for more than 10 years already; he's paid for whatever it is he may be guilty of," she said. Others, on the other hand, were too frustrated with the justice system to follow anybody's statements anymore: "after almost 2 decades, bat ngayon lng ndiskubre na nasa pilipinas pala si Hubert Webb nung maganap ang Vizconde Massacre?" asked user @raizajoy. Below are some of the other reactions from Pinoy Twitter users regarding the issue:
