Michael Ray Aquino arrives at Manila RTC for arraignment

Less than a week after his extradition, former police Senior Superintendent Michael Ray Aquino was brought to a Manila court for his arraignment in the 2000 Dacer-Corbito double murder case. Security was tight as National Bureau of Investigation agents escorted Aquino to the Manila Regional Trial Court at 8 a.m., radio dzBB's Manny Vargas reported. The report said a convoy of at least eight vehicles brought Aquino from the NBI headquarters in Manila to the sala of Judge Thelma Medina.

A separate report by dzBB's Carlo Mateo said Aquino, wearing a polo shirt, appeared calm. Aquino's lawyer Napoleon Poblador also said they hoped Medina would accommodate their request to let Aquino stay at the NBI headquarters in Manila, dzBB also reported. Earlier, Aquino's camp had voiced concern for his security should the court send him to the Manila City Jail, saying criminals who Aquino helped capture and jail may get back at him. — RSJ, GMA News
