New import Hinson sparks B-MEG's upset win over Texters

B-MEG's new reinforcement provided the spark the Llamados needed to finally blot Talk 'N Text's once immaculate record in the PBA Governors Cup's first out-of-the country game this season. Darnel Hinson fired back-to-back three-pointers in a furious 21-1 third-quarter rally to lead B-MEG to a 111-105 win over Talk 'N Text Thursday night at the Al Shabab Sports Club in Dubai, UAE. Hinson, who arrived in Manila on Monday night and left for Dubai the following day with the team, was the second-best scorer for the Llamados with 26 to back up James Yap's 32-point explosion. Hinson also had 12 rebounds while Yap shot 12-of-21 from the field to top score for the Llamados, who improved to a 3-2 record. Marc Pingris added 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Joe Devance tallied 16 markers and 17 boards as B-MEG crushed TNT off the boards, 68-52. B-MEG started out slow but recovered in the third with Hinson's consecutive 3s igniting that huge scoring exchange that ended in the favor of the Llamados, who trailed by 11 early in the first half as they struggled to get their rhythm. "We played bad particularly in the first quarter partly because we couldn't run our plays the way we're supposed to and the guys sort of lost their poise. But the good thing is, we picked our game when we have to," said B-MEG coach Jorge Gallent, who also praised their new import. "He (Hinson) played well. I'm sure Darnell will still get better once he has settled down with the team. His exactly the right fit for us," Gallent added. A Maurice Baker three-pointer pulled the Texters within, 89-91, with seven minutes and 30 seconds left. But the Llamados quickly answered with a 12-3 run with Devance and Yap ending the scoring blitz with successive triples. Jason Castro paced the Textrs with 24 points while Ranidel de Ocampo, Harvey Carey and Maurice Baker chipped in 20 markers each. The loss snapped the Grand Slam-seeking Talk 'N Text's three-game winning run. The Texters try to bounce back from that loss when they play Barangay Ginebra Friday at 7 p.m. (11 p.m. Manila time) also at the Al Shabab Sports Club. - JVP, GMA News
