Duterte: The punch heard around the (social media) world

In a brief scuffle at a demolition site in Bgy. Rosemarie, Agdao, Davao City, mayor Sara Duterte reportedly landed a few jabs straight on the jaw of Sheriff Abe Andres, after the latter insisted on pushing through with the demolition despite a 2-hour reprieve requested by the mayor. Quick to the punch, wisecracking Filipino social media users reached the decision that Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte's punch could rival that of the "Pambansang Kamao" Manny Pacquiao.

"Uminit ang ulo ko dahil hiningi ko na bigyan ako ng dalawang oras. Ano ba naman ang dalawang oras?" Duterte insisted in an interview with GMA News' "On Call." (I was hotheaded because I already asked for two hours. What's two hours?) Despite the commotion she caused, Duterte said she had no regrets about what happened: "Wala akong pakialam sa public opinon." (I don't care about public opinion.) Several minutes after the incident, the terms "Mayor Duterte" and "Sheriff" began trending on social networking site Twitter. As 2:30pm, they were ranked sixth and ninth, respectively in the Philippines. — TJD, GMA News
