PNoy reappoints Tetangco as Bangko Sentral governor

President Benigno Simeon Aquino III has reappointed Amando Tetangco Jr. as governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. The President has signed Tetangco’s reapointment papers, deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte on Friday said in a text message to GMA News Online. In January, Tetangco accepted Aquino’s offer to stay on as the central bank chief after his term expires this July. Tetangco is the central bank governor since 2005. His reappointment will allow him to continue serving as BSP governor until 2017. The BSP chief earlier said he will continue working "tirelessly" to maintain price stability and a sound banking system. Economists have expressed support for Aquino's decision to reappoint Tetangco, an appointee of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, saying it sends strong message that the BSP will be spared of partisan politics. — VS, GMA News
