Twitter: 200M tweets daily in 1st half of 2011
From a âmere" two million tweets a day in 2009, micro-blogging service Twitter claims to be averaging some 200 million tweets a day so far this year. In a blog post, Twitter said the number is equivalent to a billion Tweets every five days; or a 10-million-page book or 8,163 copies of Leo Tolstoyâs âWar and Peace" in one day. âA billion Tweets are sent every five days. Whatâs in them? Everything about every topic imaginable â whether itâs a unique birdâs-eye view of the Shuttle launch as seen from an airplane window or cheers of support for soccer teams in this yearâs Champions League tournament. Using Twitter helped a homeless man reunite with his daughter, sent two Cincinnati Reds fans to spring training on a playerâs dime, and even helped residents of a small city in Korea find fresh water after its supply was cut off," it said. Twitter said this was in contrast to two million tweets in January 2009, and 65 million tweets a day in 2010. âReading this much text would take more than 31 years and stacking this many copies of âWar and Peaceâ would reach the height of about 1,470 feet, nearly the ground-to-roof height of Taiwanâs Taipei 101, the second tallest building in the world," it said.
