Earthquake rocks Davao Oriental; 5 quakes hit Luzon


A magnitude-3.4 quake rocked the Davao Oriental area in Mindanao early Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said. The Phivolcs also said the quake was recorded at 6:28 a.m. and was tectonic in origin. In its bulletin, Phivolcs traced the epicenter to 12 km northwest of Mati, Davao Oriental. No damage or aftershock was expected, Phivolcs said. Quakes in Luzon Meanwhile, at least five quakes rocked the Northern and Central Luzon areas Friday night – three of them in Ilocos Norte. Phivolcs said the first quake measuring magnitude 3.2 was recorded in Casiguran (Aurora province). Phivolcs said the quake was recorded at 9:15 p.m., with the epicenter at 45 km southeast of Casiguran, Aurora. The second quake measured magnitude 3.2 and was recorded at 9:23 p.m., with the epicenter at 12 km southeast of Palanan, Isabela. Meanwhile, at least three quakes rocked the Laoag City area in Ilocos Norte. The first measured magnitude 2.1 and was recorded at 9:54 p.m., with the epicenter at 34 km southeast of Laoag City. A second measured magnitude 2.2 and was recorded at 9:56 p.m., with the epicenter at 66 km southeast of Laoag City. The third quake to hit the Ilocos area measured magnitude 2.6 and was recorded at 10:42 p.m., with the epicenter at 18 km southwest of Laoag City.
