Pirated discs worth P10M seized in Quiapo raid

Some P10 million worth of pirated discs was seized from vendors in an anti-piracy raid in Manila’s Quiapo district Friday. Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim and Optical Media Board chairman Ronnie Ricketts led a Manila police team in conducting the raid, according to a report on radio dzBB Saturday. Representatives of the United States Embassy were also present at the raid, the report said. The US had named Quiapo as a notorious market for piracy last March. Manila’s Quiapo and Sta. Cruz districts had gained notoriety for selling pirated items, including video discs. Unlike previous raids, the vendors did not put up a fight and surrendered their wares to members of the raiding team, the report said. — LBG, GMA News
