Weather: Two LPAs seen off Palawan, Mindanao

State weather forecasters are now monitoring two low-pressure areas or LPAs in Philippine territory. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the first LPA was estimated at 150 km north of Puerto Princesa City in Palawan as of 2 p.m. Saturday. Another LPA was estimated at 810 km east of Mindanao, the agency said in its bulletin. PAGASA, however, did not comment on the chances of the LPAs becoming cyclones. If both become cyclones, they may be codenamed “Goring" and “Hanna." PAGASA also warned of possible floods and landslides in Palawan and Mindanao. “Palawan and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rains and thunderstorms which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said. Visayas and the rest of southern Luzon will have “mostly cloudy" skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, according to PAGASA. The rest of Luzon will be “partly cloudy" to “at times cloudy" with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening, it added. Light to moderate winds blowing from the east to southeast will prevail over Luzon and coming from the southwest to west over the rest of the country, PAGASA said. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be “slight to moderate," it also said. — JE, GMA News
