Weather: Flash floods, landslides threaten Palawan, Mindanao

Flash floods and landslides from two low-pressure areas remain a threat to Palawan and Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Sunday. In its 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said one of the LPAs was estimated at 220 km west-northwest of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro as of 8 a.m. The second LPA was estimated at 780 km east of Mindanao (9.9°N, 134.0°E), PAGASA added. Both LPAs are embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. "These weather systems are likely to bring widespread rains over Palawan and Mindanao which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," it said. PAGASA did not say if the two LPAs would become a cyclone, but Typhoon2000.ph had said the LPA over Southern Luzon is not likely to intensify. Should any of the LPAs intensify into a cyclone, it will be codenamed "Goring." — LBG, GMA News
