Animated Filipino folk tales highlight Rizal day in S. Korea town
In a town one-and-a-half hours away from Seoul, South Korea, Filipino-Korean children were treated to an animated video of Filipino folk tales and a documentary on Philippine national hero Jose Rizal as part of their celebration of Rizalâs 150th birth anniversary. Filipinos congregated on June 19 in Kasan, South Korea, home to one of the biggest populations of Filipino migrant workers and spouses in the country. âOne of the activities that the Embassy conducted with the Filipino community was a Filipino cultural program for the multi-cultural children and their parents," said the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in a statement released Sunday. The whole-day event also included a tree-planting ceremony, where an all-weather pine tree from the Kasan local government was planted within the premises of the Kasan Migrants Community Center, according to the DFA. Consul General Sylvia Marasigan and Cultural Officer Mylo Fausto meanwhile donated educational materials on Philippine culture, which included Rizalâs âThe Monkey and the Turtle," to the Good Multi-cultural Family Center. The group watched âSignos: Banta ng Nagbabagong Klima," a production of GMA News and Public Affairs that talks about the impact and implications of climate change in the Philippines. The 200 participants were then given copies of the book âFinding Jose Rizal in South Korea," a compilation of essays written by Filipino migrant workers in Korea that was published by the Embassy in 2010. - BC/KBK, GMA News
