DPWH improves national road connecting Negros provinces

Travelers in the Visayas can now enjoy a smoother ride due to improvements on the national highway connecting Negros provinces. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said the works included the concreting of Bacolod South Road at Pook, Culipapa and Sanke villages in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental. “(It) has improved travel time between the two provinces of Negros Island via Hinoba-an Basay Road," the DPWH said in a news release. DPWH Region 6 Director Evelyn Barroso said the P46-million road improvement project, now on final completion stage, will facilitate comfortable travel to tourism destinations. She said the flooding problem was also mitigated after the roadway was raised, drainage structures were installed, and concrete box culvert was reinforced. The DPWH has also plans to improve the remaining gravel road under the 2011 Infra Program fund and in the proposed 2012 budget. The DPWH also rehabilitated the Kabankalan-Bais Road which forms part of the nautical highway between Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental towards the road network leading to the major port of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental and Cebu Province. Under the 2010 infra program, about 11 kilometers of deteriorated asphalt pavement of Kabankalan-Bais Road was rehabilitated at a cost of P240 million. - VVP, GMA News
