Weather: LPA east of Samar may trigger floods, landslides in eastern PHL

A potential cyclone east of Samar in Eastern Visayas threatens to trigger flash floods and landslides in eastern parts of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Monday afternoon. In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the LPA was estimated at 790 km east of Samar as of 2 p.m., embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao. "Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over the Eastern sections which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said. Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening, PAGASA added. Earlier, PAGASA forecaster Ben Oris said the LPA has a good chance of becoming a cyclone. Once it does, it will be codenamed "Goring." — RSJ, GMA News
