4 suspected robbers killed in Caloocan shootout

Four suspected robbers were killed in an armed encounter with police in Caloocan City before dawn Tuesday. The four suspects engaged police in a brief chase before trying to shoot their way out, according to a report on radio dzBB. While two of the suspects were killed on the spot, two others were declared dead on arrival at the Diosdado Macapagal Hospital, the same report said. One of the slain suspects was initially identified through an ID card as Michael Casiguran of Bagong Nayon in Caloocan.

Chief Inspector Rodrigo Soriano, head of the city police's investigation division, said the incident occurred past 1 a.m., when police at Boni Serrano Street flagged down a taxi the suspects were riding. Instead of stopping, the taxi sped away, triggering a chase that ended at 12th Avenue in Caloocan City. The report said the suspects allegedly got down and fired at the police, who returned fire. Recovered from the suspects were three cal-.38 revolvers and a 9-mm pistol. — RSJ, GMA News
