The Department of Labor and Employment(DOLE) has listed 30 prospective jobs for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who may be affected by Saudi Arabia’s new “Saudization" labor policy. DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the jobs were posted by local employers on the Philippine government’s job portal "Phil-Jobnet." A news release posted on the DOLE website said the prospective jobs were classified into the unskilled, low-skilled and semi-skilled categories:
Unskilled workers (9): laborer, domestic helpers, messenger, construction laborer, janitor/janitress, kitchen crew, housemaid, maintenance crew, domestic cleaner; Low skilled (11): field interviewer, food server/attendants, salesman/saleslady, security guards, waiter/waitress, merchandiser, sales clerk, service crew, cook (general), housekeeping attendant, baby sitter; Semi-skilled (10): accounting staff, accounting clerk, administrative assistants, call center agents, data encoder, cashier, customer service assistant, storekeeper, receptionist, office clerk. 50,000 jobs Interested jobseekers may log on at www.phil-job.net for the list of vacant positions with the corresponding establishments that offer the above occupations, the DOLE said. Meanwhile, Baldoz said there are now more than 50,000 jobs available on Phil-JobNet. Citing the report of Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) director Ma. Criselda Sy, Baldoz said most of the jobs posted in the portal are for local employment. “However, there are also available employment opportunities for abroad," she said. The BLE report shows job opportunities for low to semiskilled workers abound, with the top 20 hot jobs to date including: call center agents (10,712) customer service assistants (3,541) sales personnel (2,452) production workers/factory workers (1,360) cashiers (1,276) carpenters (963) data encoders (823) masons (684) sales clerks (591) laborers (565) housekeeping supervisors (502) heavy equipment operators (499) baby sitters (482) building electricians (475) domestic helpers (453) bulldozer operators (430) production machine operators and electricians (403) janitors (374) About 20.6 percent (10,922 vacancies) of the job vacancies posted on Phil-JobNet from June 1 to to July 1, were for unskilled and low-skilled workers. About 34.2 percent (or 18,154 vacancies) were for semiskilled workers. “More than half of the posted vacancies (29,076 or 54.8 percent) were job openings for unskilled, low-skilled and semiskilled workers," the DOLE said. The BLE report also showed that the most jobs available were for: production workers/factory workers (4,882) production machine operators (4,660) service crew (3,634) cashiers (3,338) sales clerks (2356) data encoders (1,604) sales personnel (1,414) office clerk (1,208) staff nurses (1,139) call-center agents (1,119) pipe fitters (927) bagger (801) welders (720) merchandisers (614) customer service assistants (530) computer technicians (520) tool/machine operators (497) production helpers (481) secretaries (478) waiters (475). Baldoz said the number of job vacancies being posted in the Phil-Jobnet continues to go up. “Our intensified campaign is in compliance with the Secretary’s directive and challenge of soliciting one million available job vacancies from accredited establishments at any given time this year," Sy said. - VVP, GMA News
