PAGASA: Rain over NCR a thunderstorm, not cyclone

The heavy rains that fell on parts of Metro Manila Tuesday afternoon were not due to a cyclone but to a thunderstorm, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said. But PAGASA, in a series of messages on its Twitter account, also warned fishermen to be alert for possible thunderstorms and downbursts over Manila Bay. "Rains due to thunderstorm clouds to last for one hour over the mentioned areas," it said. It said its Subic Doppler radar showed rains over Quezon City and San Juan, Pasig, Port Area/Manila, Marikina, Mandaluyong, and Caloocan cities. PAGASA also noted rains over Makati and Marikina Cities, as well as Bacoor (Cavite) and Meycauayan (Bulacan). Also, it cited the possible occurrence of a thunderstorm over Occidental Mindoro, Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon and Surigao del Norte. - KBK, GMA News
