Cop, 2 govt witnesses hurt in Zambo shooting

A policeman tasked to protect government witnesses has shot and wounded a fellow policeman and two kidnapping witnesses on Tuesday in Zamboanga City. The shooting incident happened at a safehouse of the Witness Protection Program in Barangay Tetuan at about 7:50 a.m., according to Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo, city police chief. An initial investigation showed that suspect, PO3 Carmelito Macansantos, had just arrived at the safehouse on board his black motorcycle when he engaged in an argument with fellow WPP security detail PO1 Tomas Dauba. "Upon entering the safehouse, he [Macansantos] uttered bad words which prompted PO1 Dauba to react," Cruz said. Macansantos then drew his cal-45 pistol and shot his fellow police officer and the two government witnesses, Marvin Agullana and Mark Ausley, who were both preparing for a court appearance. The two men are admitted to the program as witnesses to a kidnapping case. The suspect fled the scene on board his motorcycle. The three victims, meanwhile, were undergoing treatment as of posting time. - Mark D. Merueñas/KBK, GMA News
