New ‘Jose Pidal’ probe a waste of time — Iggy Arroyo

Senator Panfilo Lacson’s plan to revive the investigation on the controversial "Jose Pidal" account — which allegedly belonged to former First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo — will be "a shameless and monumental waste of time." This was according to Arroyo's brother, Negros Occidental Rep. Ignacio "Iggy" Arroyo, who had admitted ownership to the controversial account during past Senate investigations on the issue. "A Senate probe was conducted but no wrongdoing on our part was proven… Why should Senator Lacson waste time on another replay? For media mileage," Rep. Arroyo said in a statement Tuesday. In 2003, Lacson accused then First Gentleman Arroyo of keeping a secret bank account under the fictitious name of "Jose Pidal" to launder money. On Monday, Lacson said he will soon reveal new evidence proving that the owner of the bank account is not Rep. Arroyo, but another member of their family. Rep. Arroyo said Lacson should just "be man and civil enough to admit his mistake." "For Lacson, truth is not what it is but how the senator wants it to be," he said. He added that the senator should just spend time on his legislative work rather than resurrecting the issue. - Andreo C. Calonzo/KBK, GMA News
