Jail guard killed, another wounded in Masbate jailbreak

(Updated 3:23 p.m.) A jail guard was killed while another one was wounded following an attack by three inmates who bolted their detention cell inside the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology office in Masbate province Tuesday afternoon. The report said that around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, SJO1 Rene Danao and J02 Julius Cervantes were attacked by inmates Rommel Padailap, Jessie Cabier and Romeo Olasla Jr. The inmates likewise seized an M16 rifle, a shotgun and a short firearm, the report said. It added that Danao was pronounced dead on arrival when brought to a local hospital while Cervantes was in critical condition. PO3 Bennie Cajigas of the Palanan police said another inmate, identified as Romulo Pason, was found dead inside the detention cell. It was not clear how Pason died.
