Anne Curtis' night-ride photo trends on Twitter

It's not every day that a celebrity eschews the chauffeur in favor of a more pedestrian mode of transport. So when young star Anne Curtis —one of the most followed Filipino celebrity on Twitter, with over 1.3 million followers— posted a photo of herself on the MRT, the whole social media world took notice. It could've been just an ordinary night for commuters of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) plying the EDSA route, but passengers in the special designated coach for women got the shock of the night when the famous actress and TV host walked through the doors of the train. JUMP TO THE FULL STORY BELOW.

Fresh from a flight from Sydney, Australia, Anne Curtis decided to take the MRT to beat the traffic and make it in time for the July 5 concert of international singer Kylie Minogue at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City. Few people would've known about this rare incident had Curtis not posted her photo and tweeted about Tuesday's public transport escapade. "Hulaan nyo kung nasaan ako para makahabol kay #Kylie? :p," Curtis tweeted—and with photo evidence to boot—exciting users of the popular social networking site. As of noon on July 16, barely 12 hours after it was posted, Curtis' photo was viewed over 38,000 times. Curtis' MRT gamble eventually paid off, with Minogue tweeting: "This group looked amazing tonight," referring to Curtis and her friends in an accompanying photo. In the ensuing commotion, the words "MRT" and "Anne Curtis" eventually became Twitter's 4th and 5th trending topic, respectively. The concert venue, where Minogue performed, landed in the last spot, while the performer herself for that night was conspicuously absent from the list. It is worth noting, however, that in some countries people don't make a big deal out of celebrities riding public transport. For example, there's an entire page about celebrity sightings on the famous London Tube is available online. Nor do some celebrities make a big deal about getting around in public. Musician David Byrne, for example, is often seen riding a bike around New York, a part of his personal advocacy to encourage the use of cycling as a means of transport. Vincent Kartheiser, who plays Pete Campbell in the US TV series Mad Men, is also an avid fan of public commuting, and has said that the public bus routes in Los Angeles, California where he lives are pretty easy to navigate. In status-conscious Manila, however, many of the well-heeled would not be caught dead riding any form of public transport, save for the occasional taxi. Then again, other countries don't have the same risks of being kidnapped. — TJD/HS, GMA News
