Phivolcs: Magnitude-4.7 quake hits GenSan area; another rocks Davao

A magnitude-4.7 quake rocked an area off General Santos City in Mindanao before dawn Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said. "Bagama't medyo malakas ito ito malayo ito sa dagat wala namang nakareport na naramdaman ito, di naramdaman, walang epekto," Phivolcs science research assistant Robert Tiglao said in an interview on dzBB. He also said the predawn quake in the General Santos area had no connection with a magnitude-4.2 quake that hit the Davao area before midnight Wednesday. "Magkaiba sila, medyo magkalayo rin (There was no connection between the two quakes)," he said. Phivolcs' bulletin said the predawn quake occurred at 4:09 a.m., with the epicenter at 136 km southeast of General Santos City. On the other hand, the Davao quake measured magnitude 4.2 and was recorded at 11:44 p.m., with the epicenter at 142 km northeast of Mati, Davao Oriental. No damage or aftershock was expected from both quakes, Phivolcs said. — LBG, GMA News
