Manila vice mayor's aide killed inside Tondo home

An unidentified man with a high-powered firearm shot and killed a security aide of Manila Vice Mayor Francisco Domagoso (Isko Moreno) in the victim's house in Manila's Tondo district early Thursday. The gunman even threatened the family of victim Jonathan Almario Ignacio, 37, before fleeing, according to a son of the victim. "Bigla na lang binuksan ang pinto, tuluy-tuloy, at pinutukan. Sunud-sunod po. Tapos ng putok nagsitayuan kami (He opened the door, went in, and fired at my father. We were all startled by the gunfire)," the son said when interviewed by radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo. He said the gunman then aimed his firearm at them and threatened to kill them. "Bago umalis, tinutukan kami. Sabi, 'walang magsasalita, wala kayong nakita, papatayin ko kayo,' sabay alis (Before the gunman left, he poked his firearm at us. He told us to keep quiet or he would kill us)," he said.

Ignacio, who is part of the vice mayor's "internal security," was shot while he was sleeping and died from a gunshot wound to the head, the dzBB report said. Manila Police District homicide investigators said they suspect Ignacio was the target of the killing. They cited witnesses who said the gunman had at least one companion who stayed outside the house and acted as lookout. The victim's son said they cannot think of any enemy who would want to kill his father, saying he had no known enemies. "Wala po siyang kaalitan. Hindi naman po palaaway (My father had no enemies. He is not a violent man)," he said. — RSJ, GMA News
