Major Mindanao road cut by Bukidnon landslide

A heavy downpour over the first weekend of July caused a landslide along a corn-planted mountainside in Barangay Lumbayao in Valencia City, Bukidnon early Monday morning, July 4, leaving at least six people dead and about 11 others missing. The landslide buried parts of the Kapalong-Talaingod-Valencia Road, which connects the province of Bukidnon to Davao del Norte. Bulldozers have been used amid rain and mud to clear the road, leading to the partial opening of the road. The red icon below represents the site of the landslide. The Department of Public Works and Highways and the local government have been working to clear the road, which is a national highway used to transport goods from Valencia City, Bukidnon to Tagum City, Davao del Norte and vice versa. While the road is being cleared of landslide debris, residents can take the longer route using the Davao-Calinan-Bukidnon Road, which connects Valencia City to Davao City.
