MMDA files 8 more cases vs billboard operators in QC

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority filed at least eight more cases against three billboard operators in Quezon City for violating the Building Code and for not having the required permits. MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino lodged the cases against the operators of the billboards along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), Bonifacio Avenue and Immaculate Conception (Cubao). “[Owners of] all eight billboards had received notices of rolldown (removal) and confiscation of the illegal advertising tarpaulins from the Local Building Official of Quezon City," the MMDA said in a news release. last Friday.
It added the eight offending billboard operators failed to comply with a 15-day period to rectify the violations. This brought to 18 the number of cases filed so far against illegal billboard operators since the MMDA started its “Operation Roll Down Baby" campaign last May. Meanwhile, the MMDA said Mandaluyong City through Mayor Ben Hur Abalos removed three "offensive" billboards near the Pasig River. Last June, Tolentino filed cases against the first batch of cases involving at least 10 billboards in Makati City. Since May, composite teams with representatives from the local government unit, the Department of Public Works and Highways and the MMDA inspected billboards along EDSA and C-5 Road. Tolentino pledged to continue his billboard campaign to promote public safety and rid major thoroughfares of traffic distractions. — LBG, GMA News
