Weather: Low-pressure area intensifies into 'Goring'

One of the two low-pressure areas in Philippine territory intensified into a tropical depression Saturday afternoon. It was codenamed “Goring." The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said "Goring" was estimated at 425 km north-northeast of Basco, Batanes, as of 2 p.m. A GMA News TV report quoted PAGASA weather specialist Jori Loiz as saying the tropical depression is heading toward Taiwan. A second low-pressure area was estimated at 320 km east of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur in Mindanao, PAGASA said. The state weather service warned of possible flash floods and landslides over eastern Mindanao. It added “moderate to strong winds" blowing from the southwest will prevail over Luzon, where its coastal waters will be “moderate to rough." Elsewhere, winds will be “light to moderate" resulting in “slight to moderate" seas, PAGASA said. — JE, GMA News
