One killed, one taken hostage in weekend robbery in Negros hacienda

The police in Negros Occidental are tracking down a group of armed men who killed a farm worker and escaped with a female hostage after barging into a hacienda in Silay City over the weekend. According to a report Monday on Negros-based news site Visayan Daily Star, unidentified men killed a 46-year-old farm worker. The attackers also injured the hacienda's 37-year-old caretaker and took his daughter hostage. The report said members of the 6th Regional Public Safety Battalion and Public Safety Company of the provincial police are helping find the suspects. The report added that the police are looking into the possibility the suspects may have learned that the hacienda workers were scheduled to receive their pay during the weekend. The suspects allegedly took P25,000 cash, P6,000 in gift checks, a digital video camera, a mobile phone, a bank passbook, a credit card, and checkbook from the house of a caretaker. - VVP, GMA News
