Google Doodle pays tribute to St. Basil's Cathedral in Russia

Search giant Google on Tuesday (Manila time) paid tribute to the St. Basil's Cathedral in Russia on the 450th anniversary of its consecration with a Google Doodle. Visitors to Google's home page will see an image of the cathedral integrated into Google's familiar logo. Clicking on the logo will take the visitor to Google search results for St. Basil's Cathedral. The cathedral marks its 450th anniversary, with the celebrations expected to last from July 12 to October 14. July 12 was the day the cathedral was finished and October 14 is Pokrov, the Orthodox holiday of Intercession to which the cathedral is dedicated. According to Russia-IC.com, some 390 million rubles ($14 million) was spent to renovate the building before the anniversary celebrations. In 1990, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization declared the cathedral a World Heritage Site. The cathedral is part of the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square World Heritage Site. — RSJ, GMA News
