Captured croc now in Palawan Crocodile Farm

The 13.7-foot saltwater crocodile suspected of having attacked and eaten a fisherman in Palawan has been brought to the crocodile farm in the province, a television report said Tuesday. In a report aired over GMA News TV's "News To Go," anchor and I-Witness host Kara David said the almost 400-kilogram saltwater crocodile (scientific name Crocodylus porosus) caught in Barangay Rio Tuba in Bataraza, Palawan last Monday has been brought to the Palawan Crocodile Farm and Conservation Center. She said it took her team and experts from the Palawan Crocodile Farm and the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development almost three weeks to search for, and later on catch the crocodile.

The same crocodile is suspected of having eaten a fisherman named Edwin Lucero, who went missing in the municipality of Bataraza in Palawan last June 21. The following day, Lucero's body was found bearing crocodile bites. David said the experts will try to induce vomiting to see if the crocodile has human tissues inside its stomach. She likewise said that the experts intend to keep the crocodile in the farm to prevent it from possibly devouring anymore humans. — Kimberly Jane Tan/RSJ, GMA News
