Google+ to hit 20 million users by weekend?

With the positive buzz it has been getting, the population at Google's social network Google+ may have passed 10 million this week, and could even reach 20 million by this weekend. This was the estimate of genealogy site Ancestry.com founder Paul Allen, in a post on his account on —where else?— Google+. "I project that Google will easily pass 10 million users (by Tuesday) and could reach 20 million user by this coming weekend if they keep the Invite Button available. As one G+ user put it, it is easy to underestimate the power of exponential growth," he said on his Google+ account. He said that his analysis, based on a survey of the surnames appearing on the site, seems to indicate that the number of Google+ users worldwide reached 7.3 million as of July 10. This was up from 1.7 million users as of July 4 —a 350-percent increase in six days. "The userbase is growing so quickly that it is challenging for me to keep up, since the number of users of any given surname (even the rare ones I am tracking) seems to be climbing every day," he said. However, a separate article on CNET noted that, although Google+ had grown quickly in just two weeks, it is still a small fraction of juggernaut Facebook's 750 million users. On the other hand, Facebook appears to be taking Google seriously at this time, with at least one Mark Zuckerberg seen having a Google+ account; and with Facebook disabling at least two tools that can potentially export Facebook data to Google+. — TJD, GMA News
