Google+ allows migrating contacts from other social networks

While Facebook has earned criticism for keeping users from exporting their friends' lists, upcoming social network Google+ is doing exactly the opposite. Google product manager Rohit Khare said the tool, an address book uploader that can extract addresses for possible import to Google+, stemmed from feedback from users who want flexible ways to find friends on Google+. "Many email systems— and even some social networks — put users in charge of their own data by helping them export their contacts in the standard CSV or vCard formats," he said in a blog post. Khare's post came shortly after Facebook disabled two recent tools that allowed Facebook users to export their Facebook address books - and possibly move them to Google+. In his post, Khare said the Google uploader "won’t mix your imported contacts up with all of your other Google Contacts." "We only store the ones that you put into your Circles," he added. A separate article on PC Magazine said that Google's tool will allow users to upload their address book into Google+. Users will be able to take their address books in CSV or vCard formats. — TJD, GMA News
