UK job listing hints at iPhone 5 launch in August

A job listing in the United Kingdom for sales specialists for Apple Inc.'s iPhones has triggered speculation of a possible launch of Apple's iPhone 5 in mid-August. UK recruiter Gekko Ltd. posted an opening on Reed.co.uk for an "Apple iPhone sales specialist" for a "temporary" job for "retail in-store promotions." "Our client, Apple, one of the largest consumer electronic hardware and software companies in the world are seeking full-time iPhone Sales Staff for an exciting project to work 5 days a week (Tuesday-Saturday) for the period 16th August - 29th October within key retail stores," Gekko said. It has had at least 32 applications as of Thursday afternoon (Manila time) since it was first posted on July 12. Gekko said that it puts a premium on:

  • Experience of selling/promoting mobile phones or possess advanced user experience of iPhones
  • Passion and keen interest in Apple products
  • Sales-driven and target-oriented
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Enthusiastic, confident and reliable individuals
The job is said to entail:
  • Working closely alongside both management and staff within the store to generate and grow iPhone sales to ensure sales targets are met
  • Providing a first-class customer service experience, delivering passionate and knowledgeable product sales demonstrations ... to capture the hearts and minds of potential customers
  • Integrate within the store's team to build working relationships through training and motivational activities.
  • Ensure the Apple area within the store is effectively merchandised to create a strong retail presence.
"If you are successful, full training will be provided and you will be required to attend a 4 day training event 9th -12th August 2011 in the London area," the recruiter said. Tech site CNET, one of the first to break the story, said that Apple appears to be "looking to bolster its sales staff, and the only reason we can think is that there's a big product launch on the horizon." It added that Gekko has worked with Apple before, on shops within shops. "We've been hearing that the iPhone 5 would be appearing in September, but this could mean Apple is planning to surprise us with an August launch," it added. "Rumors pointing to a September or early October launch for the new iPhone have been prevalent so far with Apple’s traditional early September music announcement, but we’re happy to line up early," added Apple enthusiast site 9to5mac.com. — TJD, GMA News
