Phivolcs: Magnitude-4.6 quake hits Negros Occ

A predawn magnitude-4.6 quake rocked the Negros Occidental area in Western Visayas Friday, three days after a magnitude-6.2 quake jolted the region. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was recorded at 2:49 a.m. and was tectonic in origin.

But the United States Geological Survey measured the quake at magnitude 5.0. In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake's epicenter was 62 km southeast of Sipalay City in Negros Occidental. Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity III in Sipalay City in Negros Occidental; and at Intensity II in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental; and in Iloilo City. No damage or aftershock was expected from Friday's predawn quake, Phivolcs said. — RSJ, GMA News
