Google testing 'infinite scrolling' for search results

Search giant Google may be working on a new interface for its search results, including a “sticky" search box and infinite scrolling. Enthusiast site “The Google Operating System" said the new design appears to be more fluid and removes pagination. “The most important change is that most navigation elements continue to be visible even when you scroll down. The navigation bar, the search box and the search options sidebar have a fixed position, which means that you no longer have scroll to the top of the page to edit the query or switch to a specialized search engine," it said. It noted the sticky search box and sidebar, and the infinite scrolling, are already available in Google Image Search. The site also noted the Instant Preview button now appears to the side of the result text preview instead of to the side of the result webpage name. “The site also doesn’t pop up the preview when you simply click something inside the text, you have to hover over the magnifying glass icon," it said. For its part, tech site TheNextWeb said Google is using a simple solution to solve a problem with many infinite scrolling apps. But it said some may miss the pagination especially when going through several search results. “It was always handy to be able to alter the URL to jump back to a rough period of time, just as it can be handy to jump past the first few pages in Google when the first few pages of results are those stupid price comparison sites," it said. — TJD, GMA News
