SC hailed for 'outstanding performance' in using UNDP funds

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) recently hailed the Philippine Supreme Court for its “outstanding performance" in using assistance provided by the UN’s global development network. Amelia Supetran, country director and officer in charge of UNDP Philippines, said the high court rendered a “clean opinion on the financial audit report." “This made us more confident that transparency and accountability is being ensured in managing project funds," she added. Every year, the UNDP audits the resources it provides to its implementing partners — such as the high tribunal. The UNDP expressed hopes that the high court will be consistent in observing financial standards and policies in managing project resources. Among the projects that the SC undertook with the UNDP was the Medium-Term Development Plan for the Criminal Justice System and another program that helped educate disadvantaged people about their rights. The SC and the UNDP also started an initiative to integrate the Rule of Law, with focus on human rights, in the elementary and high school levels. The SC and the UNDP gave greater attention to increasing access to justice by the poor and the marginalized through integration of gender dimensions, human rights, and the environment in its projects. — Mark D.
