Weather: Thunderstorms expected in parts of Central Luzon

While the weather is hot in Metro Manila, thunderstorms loom over parts of Central Luzon, state weather forecasters said Sunday afternoon. But the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the thunderstorms are not due to typhoon "Ineng" (Ma-on). "(The) possible thunderstorm occurrences over Muñoz, Nueva Ecija and Tarlac are isolated ones and is not related to the typhoon," it said in a series of tweets on its Twitter account. It said thunderstorms and rainshowers can be expected over Tarlac province and over Muñoz town in Nueva Ecija. Earlier, PAGASA forecaster Rene Paciente said typhoon "Ineng" entered Philippine territory at about 11 a.m. but was to exit in the evening. PAGASA said that as of 1 p.m., "Ineng" was estimated at 1,215 km east-northeast of Basco, Batanes in Extreme Northern Luzon. It said "Ineng" had maximum winds of 185 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 220 kph, and is forecast to move north-northwest at 24 kph. "Typhoon 'Ineng' is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility tonight," it said. — KBK, GMA News
