Cops draw up measures vs bank robs after QC heist

Authorities are drawing up security measures to prevent a repeat of last weekend’s brazen bank robbery in Quezon City, saying the perpetrators may be planning a similar heist soon. Quezon City police head Chief Superintendent George Regis said on Monday that Friday’s robbery in Quezon City took at least two months to plan. “We are expecting they will hit another target. The PNP, the law enforcement agencies, ayaw namin mangyari uli ang incident na ito; ang tinututukan natin is to prevent another bank robbery incident to happen," Regis said in an interview on dwIZ radio. On Friday, heavily armed men robbed a Bank of the Philippine Islands branch in Quezon City, took an undetermined amount of money and eluded arrest. Regis said their initial investigation showed that at least 20 men may have been involved in the heist, and that the robbery took some two months to plan. “Mahirap kalaban ang napagplanuhan, not less than two months. Precision ang kanilang pagganap na holdup. Mahirap ma-prevent lalo kung di lang pito o sampu. We counted more than 20 na nangganap, nag-perpetrate ng robbery holdup na ito," he said. For now, Regis said the city police is coordinating efforts with other police units, including the PNP Intelligence Group. He said they plan to focus on surveillance and intelligence to determine the gang’s next target. Pasig cops tighten security on banks After the bank heist in Quezon City, the police in another financial center in Metro Manila on Monday tightened security around banks and commercial establishments. Pasig City police deployed police teams near banks to thwart any robbery attempt, according to a report by radio dzBB's Glen Juego. City police head Superintendent Jesse Cardona said the teams deployed near the banks will include both uniformed and plainclothes personnel, the report said. He also said the city police will coordinate with bank managers to jointly put in place additional security measures. - VVP, GMA News
